WELLNESS COACH I

Education and Experience: Education: Associates Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Addiction Studies Field Experience: 400 verifiable hours of experience within the last six years providing behavioral health services to children and youth through age 25 in a school-linked/school-based organization, non-profit, communication organization or health center. OR Education: Associate degree in any field Field Experience: 1,350 verifiable hours of experience within the last six years providing behavioral health services to children and youth through age 25 in a school-linked/school-based organization, non-profit, communication organization or health center. Licenses and other Requirements: Wellness Coach Certification preferred. Some positions may require the ability to speak, read, and write in a designated second language.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of an assigned administrator and in coordination with a pupil Personnel Services credentialed professional, operate as part of a care team to provide support to students in a PreK-12 environment in the areas of behavioral health and well-being, such as wellness promotion and education, screening, care coordination, individual and group support, and crisis referral.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES:

Assist in providing classroom support focused on wellness promotion, bullying prevention, and life skills (e.g., stress management, time management, problem-solving). Participate in c onduct ing brief check-ins and scheduled meetings with students to offer emotional support and/or follow wellness curricula to help meet social, emotional, and academic goals. Coordinate with school personnel and collaborate on behavioral screenings; identify and refer students for behavioral health services within the school or broader organization. Process documents (e.g., intake forms, billing) for activity documentation, information dissemination, and program compliance. Collaborate with district, community organizations, and other entities for planning, implementing, and maintaining program services. Communicate with professionals providing support and care to children and youth. Intervene in crisis situations following established procedures to ensure safety and reduce crisis intensity while maintaining confidentiality. Participate in student/teacher or parent/teacher conferences, meetings, and training to advocate and share/gather information as needed. Present information to district and community groups to promote programs, gain feedback, and meet internal requirements. Coordinate care, connecting individuals to internal and external behavioral health resources, and facilitate communication with professionals. Attend meetings with students, parents, and staff as needed. Support PBIS interventions (e.g., Check In/Check Out, Renew) by acting as a facilitator and communicating with parents and staff. Perform crisis referrals, assessing needs, offering emotional support, and referring to on-site mental health or school administrators as necessary. Support parent and community engagement initiatives. Communicate with parents and staff as appropriate within confidentiality limits. Document interventions and bill for services as directed. Make home visits with another staff member to support student engagement and wellness as needed. Meet with students individually (less than 30 minutes) for wellness promotion, mental health literacy, and life skills education. Deliver small group wellness programming focused on social-emotional skills, stress management, and life skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Wellness Coach Certification or ability to become certified through the California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) Education and Experience: Education: Associates Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Addiction Studies Field Experience: 400 verifiable hours of experience within the last six years providing behavioral health services to children and youth through age 25 in a school-linked/school-based organization, non-profit, communication organization or health center. OR Education: Associate degree in any field Field Experience: 1,350 verifiable hours of experience within the last six years providing behavioral health services to children and youth through age 25 in a school-linked/school-based organization, non-profit, communication organization or health center. Licenses and other Requirements: Wellness Coach Certification preferred. Some positions may require the ability to speak, read, and write in a designated second language. Knowledge of: Physical, emotional, and social wellness principles, including the impacts of stress, time management, mental health, and emotional regulation on academic success. Mental health conditions, wellness strategies, and resilience building in children and adolescents. Behavioral health screenings, community resources, and the referral processes for students in need of behavioral health services. Anti-bullying programs, strategies, causes, impacts, and prevention methods in educational settings. Child and adolescent development, particularly in emotional and social skills, problem-solving, and decision-making. Crisis management techniques and protocols, including de-escalation strategies and maintaining a safe environment. Program documentation requirements, including intake forms, billing, and ensuring compliance with district policies and ethical standards. Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and support for interventions like Check In/Check Out and Renew. Ethical guidelines and confidentiality standards for working with minors, adhering to district policies, and maintaining privacy. District policies and Certified Wellness Coach Code of Ethics, relevant laws and regulations, models for ethical decision-making, and practices that advance social, economic, and environmental justice. Ability to: Relate to and work with at-promise youth, advocate on behalf of the target population. Provide individual and group support for all students 3. Coordinate various student services with appropriate agencies. Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports, including confidential materials. Adhere to District policies, procedures, and Certified Wellness Coach Code of Ethics. Read, interpret, apply, and explain laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Work independently with little direction, work as part of a team, and work with frequent interruptions. Meet schedules and timelines. Work confidentially with discretion. Develop and maintain cooperative, constructive relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies. Effectively communicate orally and in writing with diverse groups of students, parents, staff. Operate a computer and other office equipment. Flexibility and ability to travel various school sites, training, and professional development opportunities.
