We are seeking a Surgery Nurse Practitioner for a 10-day locum tenens assignment in New York, starting Jan 2, 2026. This opportunity offers 12-hour shifts with a mix of days and nights, requiring flexibility to cover patient care for those who have undergone breast surgery and for benign breast symptom management.

Job Details

• Schedule: 12-hour shifts, mix of day and night coverage; schedule assigned based on hospital needs and may change to cover gaps

Responsibilities and Duties

• Conduct history and physical examinations for follow-up patients after breast surgery
• Manage benign breast symptoms
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests
• Administer IV medication
• Write admission orders under supervision of attending
• Apply skin tests (e.g., PPD)
• Perform arterial blood gas determination
• Draw blood and obtain blood cultures
• Change surgical and non-surgical dressings
• Remove central venous pressure lines and drains
• Perform and interpret EKGs
• Insert or replace feeding tubes
• Insert Foley catheters
• Initiate consultation requests
• Initiate CPR and assist in code situations
• Start intravenous infusions and insert venous lines
• Manage medication drips, order and renew medications
• Conduct medication reconciliation
• Monitor vital signs
• Insert, interpret with X-ray, replace, and remove naso-gastric tubes
• Obtain patient consent
• Order imaging studies (CT, MRI, Carotid, ECHO)
• Order routine laboratory work
• Provide pain management
• Participate in treatment planning and interdisciplinary rounds
• Type and cross blood
• Perform pre-operative medical assessments and provide instructions pre- and post-operatively
• Educate patients regarding procedures and care
• Insert and remove staples and sutures for wound closure
• Perform venipuncture and phlebotomy
• Write daily progress notes, discharge orders, and summaries
• Aspirate seromas
• First assist in the operating room
• Perform cancer risk assessments for the general population

Additional Information

• Must be licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in New York
• Flexibility to work both day and night 12-hour shifts as assigned by the hospital
• Comfortable with post-surgical patient management and benign breast conditions
