Job Description
The Director of Security and Public Safety is a strategic leader responsible for the comprehensive oversight and administration of security operations for a prestigious, worldclass performing arts center. The role requires visionary security management, ensuring the safety and security of the campus through innovative solutions and strategic partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a forwardthinking security strategy for all buildings, grounds, and events.
- Lead a diverse workforce, including Permanent Civil Service, Temporary Exempt, PartTime/AsNeeded, and Contract staff.
- Design and enforce advanced safety protocols and emergency procedures; conduct comprehensive risk assessments and incident resolution initiatives.
- Act as the principal liaison for public agencies, dignitaries, board members, and private security details, building relationships with SFPD, SFFD, and Veterans Affairs.
- Ensure operational readiness of security personnel, oversee scheduling, and manage the security divisions budget.
- Supervise, evaluate, and develop security staff; implement training programs and address employee relations in partnership with Human Resources.
- Lead critical projects such as integrated radio communication systems, campuswide video monitoring, emergency response systems, and patron screening technology.

Crisis Management
- Act as Incident Commander during emergencies.
- Develop and implement crisis communication plans.
- Conduct regular emergency response drills.
- Coordinate resourcespersonnel, equipment, external support.
- Lead postincident reviews and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain business continuity plans.
Financial and Budget Acumen
- Develop and manage the security divisions budget.
- Implement costeffective measures to optimize resource allocation.
- Conduct detailed financial analyses and forecast budgetary needs.
- Prepare financial reports and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Oversee contracts with external vendors.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience: Minimum five years of professional security management experience (residential security does not qualify).
- Substitutions: Experience can substitute for required degree (up to two years); J.D. or masters degree can substitute for one year of experience.

License and Certification
- Valid California drivers license.
Physical Requirements
- Stand up to 75% of shift, walk up to 75%, climb stairs up to 25%, bend/twist up to 25%, and jog during emergencies.
- Lift at least 50 lbs.
- Perform strenuous activities related to emergency response.
Working Conditions
- On-site presence with availability for evenings, weekends, and emergencies outside regular hours.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in a large performing arts, sports, or entertainment facility.
- Minimum five years of supervisory experience with more than two direct reports.
- Advanced education (J.D. or masters).
- Extensive union relations and labor management experience.
- Technical proficiency with patron screening systems and Microsoft Office.
- Financial acumen and public relations experience.
